Although we are unable to see you in person at this year’s American Musicological Society conference, we’d still love for you to “stop by the booth” and meet with us virtually. Our music editor is taking Zoom appointments.

Raina Polivka, Editor
Music

“University of California Press is home to some of the most innovative and transformative works of historical musicology, distinguishing itself as the model for engaged scholarship that explores music in the context of social issues of various kinds across the classical canon, and in the fields of opera, jazz, American music, and contemporary music. As Acquiring Editor for California’s prestigious music list, I am interested in books that help us to better understand the complexities of our history, our world, and ourselves through the lens of music.

Scholarship that recuperates forgotten histories, that speaks across disciplines, that puts music studies in dialogue with technologies of media and science, or that engages with the pressing issues of our time is of particular interest. I am looking for new and vital voices to push the field of music studies into new and exciting areas of inquiry and criticism.

In place of our physical exhibit, I invite you to check out our suite of music studies series, our catalog of award-winning music titles, our collection of journals, and our new and forthcoming books.

I also welcome opportunities to learn more about your work or answer any questions you may have about publishing with University of California Press.”
