The Association of American Publishers (AAP) has announced category winners for the 2021 Professional and Scholarly Excellence (PROSE) Awards honoring the best scholarly works published in 2020. A panel of 23 judges selected the winners from a total of 130 Finalists from an overall pool of 595 entries for this year’s PROSE Awards competition. UC Press was honored to have had two of its publications selected as finalists and is delighted to report that both of those finalists have been announced as category winners.
Latin American and Latinx Visual Culture has won the Best New Journal in the Humanities and Social Sciences category and The Decisive Network: Magnum Photos and the Postwar Image Market by Nadya Bair has won in the Media and Cultural Studies category.
“These 45 works all represent exceptional scholarship, and significant contributions to their various fields,” commented Syreeta Swann, Vice President, Programs and Administration, AAP. “We are delighted to announce this year’s Subject Category Winners and look forward to announcing the next round of PROSE honors—the Excellence Award Winners—next month.”
Latin American and Latinx Visual Culture will compete for the 2021 PROSE Award for Excellence in Reference Works alongside seven other reference category winners, all published by fellow university presses—a clean sweep for members of the Association of University Presses. The Decisive Network will compete for the 2021 PROSE Award for Excellence in Humanities against 17 other humanities category winners. We congratulate both Latin American and Latinx Visual Culture and The Decisive Network on their PROSE Awards category wins and extend our congratulations to all of the other PROSE Awards category winners.
