"Mexican Studies/Estudios Mexicanos" Announces Christian Zlolniski Award for Best Early-Career Article

The editorial committee of Mexican Studies/Estudios Mexicanos (MS/EM) is pleased to announce that the journal is now accepting submissions for the 2024-2025 cycle (volumes 40-41) of MS/EM's award for best early-career article. The award is now also eponymous! For the 2024-2025 edition and beyond, it is renamed in honor of editor emeritus Christian Zlolniski, an anthropologist of labor practices and migration at University of Texas at Arlington. During Christian’s tenure as editor, MS/EM renewed its commitment to promoting the work of exciting young scholars and created the award. The award aims to recognize contributions of the highest academic quality in the multidisciplinary field of Mexican studies for the originality of their topics, theoretical perspectives, and/or methodological strategies. Previous competition winners have written about scientific knowledge of meteorites in nineteenth-century Mexico and women’s efforts to enter the world of twentieth-century Mexican lucha libre. In addition to the one award for best article, one honorable mention will be recognized. More information, including rules for entering the competition and links to previous award-winning articles, can be found on MS/EM's site.
In addition to inviting submissions for the Christian Zlolniski Award, MS/EM also invites authors at all stages of career to submit manuscripts for publication consideration. See the journal's Call for Papers.
